It was wonderful to attend the annual Middle and Senior Swimming Carnival at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre last Friday. The level of participation was excellent, and it reminded me how lucky we are to live in Australia and still be able to hold events like this, given COVID-19 restrictions throughout much of the world.

This was reinforced at Monday’s Assembly as the Round Square Ambassadors presented information to the School community about the Ideals of being a Round Square School. Round Square is an internationally diverse network of 200 like-minded schools in 50 countries on six continents that connect and collaborate to offer world-class programmes and experiences, developing global competence, character and confidence. Schools are like-minded in a shared understanding of the hardwired link between character education and academic success.

At Wilderness, we believe that to equip our girls for positive, active and engaged global citizenship, we must offer them more than academic knowledge and qualifications. The presentation highlighted the challenges many students throughout the School face in getting to school each day.

During the assembly, I also reminded the girls of the importance of looking after themselves by eating well, drinking water regularly and making sure that they are getting at least 8 hours of sleep a night. If girls are sick, they need to stay at home and rest, rather than fighting on and ending up sick for a longer period. Can I remind parents that if your daughter is going to be absent from school for any reason that you contact the Front Office via email to alert us of your daughters’ absence prior to 9.00am.

Year 11 Parent Information Evening

On Tuesday 2 March, we will be hosting our Year 11 Parent Information Evening with Dr Tessa Opie. Dr Tessa Opie is the founder and director of in your skin® and is an advocate for healthy and consenting relationships.

We are pleased to be sharing this occasion with parents as we continue to work together to provide our girls with strategies and knowledge to make the best decisions for a safe, healthy and fulfilling life that focuses on positive relationships.

International Women’s Day

Next Friday 5 March, we will celebrate International Women’s Day and will host girls from a range of Adelaide schools for breakfast. The theme for International Women’s Day is #ChooseToChallenge.

A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day. We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world where gender does not determine opportunity.

We look forward to sharing this day with the girls and taking the time to focus on what is an incredibly important topic for each of them.

Class Representatives

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to be Class Representatives this year. We are pleased to see so many families keen to interact outside of the School gates. The full list of names for 2021 can be found here. We look forward to seeing what fun activities are organised for our families.
